The Last of Us 2, released by Naughty Dog in 2020, is the best example of accessibility in gaming to date. I think there’s a lesson we can learn from the gaming industry and their approach to accessibility when it comes to accommodating for different needs. There are too many different access needs & ways they combine for different people to accommodate everyone with a very specific set of accessibility improvements designed to only address certain types of access, especially when those ‘improvements’ are forced across the board at a very large scale. I think it’s awesome that they’re continuously working to improve the app’s accessibility and some issues were definitely addressed with this release.īut… How does an accessibility update make the product less accessible for some users? Updated 8/11/21, 4:30 PM ET to clarify changes extend to mobile and better explain plans for color palettes.Does all of the above mean that Twitter’s new update is bad? No.

It only noted that it would roll out more color palettes “soon.” This update will be about closely aligning palettes with Twitter’s updated brand look, we’re told.

The company says today’s changes are just the start of more visual updates to come, though it didn’t hint at what those future tweaks may include. However, whether Twitter users will appreciate the update remains to be seen. That’s why it makes sense that Twitter is redesigning its website now. With Super Follow, Twitter is aiming to bring more creators onto the platform, and the company is also rolling out e-commerce shopping features, a subscription service for power users, live audio with Spaces, redesigned bookmark collections and more.īut adding features could lead to a more confusing experience, particularly for newcomers, as the new options could begin to crowd the screen. The changes prepare Twitter to make room for a different type of online experience that goes beyond just sharing text-based posts with the occasional photo or other media attached. The redesign has removed some of the visual clutter on the screen, too, like what Twitter refers to as “unnecessary divider lines.” There are fewer gray backgrounds, as well as increased space to make text easier to read. Twitter Spaces will be available for the web, including accessibility features
